Councilmember Sharona R. Nazarian, PsyD was elected to the Beverly Hills City Council in June 2022.  A 30-year Beverly Hills resident with strong community ties, she is honored to be serving her first term on the City Council. 

An accomplished community leader, philanthropic advocate, and a proud immigrant, she has dedicated her career to public service and has a deep commitment to giving back to the community that she loves and has given her so many opportunities.  English is her third language and she is the first Iranian American female to serve on the Beverly Hills City Council.

Dr. Nazarian’s number one priority is ensuring the safety and security of the City’s residents, businesses and visitors.  She has also prioritized accountability, strategic planning for the future and keeping the community well-informed while investing in new technology to maximize city operations. Sharona is a pro resident and pro local business Councilmember because she is pro Beverly Hills.

During her previous tenure as a Beverly Hills Public Works Commissioner, she spearheaded the Disposable Foodware Accessories Ordinance which was approved into law in 2021. Sharona supported RethinkBHTap, which promotes the city’s high quality drinking water and helps reduce the use of plastic bottles and served on the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan Community Task Force.  She also served as past Chair of the Beverly Hills Human Relations Commission, where she helped create the City’s ‘Civility Statement’ which is still used today and also developed the Cultural Round Table. 

Dr. Nazarian is a current Commissioner and former Chairperson for the Los Angeles County Commission for Alcohol and Other Drugs. She is the Past President of the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills and formerly served on the Executive Board of the Maple Counseling Center (TMCC), the Co-President of the Beverly Hills Sister City Association; and past Board Member of the Zimmer Children’s Museum.  She has received numerous awards for her civic service, including the Community Leader Award for TMCC and The Israel Bond Golda Meir Woman of Valor Award.  Sharona proudly worked on the City of Beverly Hills Centennial Celebration in 2014 and served on the Beverly Hills Police Chief’s Advisory Board.  

Dr. Nazarian’s commitment to community foundations and boards run deep.  She is the former National Vice President of the Friends of Israeli Disabled Veterans (FIDF), a current executive board member of USC Hillel, active in Hadassah, the Jewish Federation, WIZO and an active member and former Board of Directors member for Sinai Temple. 

Sharona holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Sociology from USC. She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Multicultural Psychology. She lives in Beverly Hills with her husband Daniel, former Chairperson of the City’s Health and Safety Commission, and is the proud mother of three sons, Noah, Aaron and Jonah.   The Nazarian family are all graduates of the Team Beverly Hills and CERT programs.
